Quran 18:55

What prevented people from accepting faith, when guidance has come to them, and from seeking their Lord’s forgiveness? Unless they are waiting for the precedent of the ancients to befall them, or to have the punishment come upon them face to face.

And naught hindereth mankind from believing when the guidance cometh unto them, and from asking forgiveness of their Lord unless (it be that they wish) that the judgment of the men of old should come upon them or (that) they should be confronted with the Doom.

Kendilerine doğru yolu gösteren peygamber geldiği halde insanları iyman etmekten ve günahlarının mağrifetini istemekten alıkoyan da başka değil, ancak kendilerine evvelkilerin sünneti gelmesi veya Âhıret azâbının gözleri önüne gelmesi kazıyyesidir

Qu’est-ce donc qui empêche les hommes de cuire, quand la direction du droit chemin leur a été donnée ? qu’est-ce qui les empêche d’implorer le pardon de Dieu ? Peut-être attendent-ils le sort des hommes d’autrefois, ou que le châtiment les atteigne à la face de l’univers. .
