Quran 9:42

Had the gain been immediate, and the journey shorter, they would have followed you; but the distance seemed too long for them. Still they swear by Allah: “Had we been able, we would have marched out with you.” They damn their own souls, and Allah knows that they are lying.

Had it been a near adventure and an easy journey they had followed thee, but the distance seemed too far for them. Yet will they swear by Allah (saying): If we had been able we would surely have set out with you. They destroy their souls, and Allah knoweth that they verily are liars.

O, bir yakın ganimet ve orta bir sefer olsa idi mutlaka arkana düşerlerdi, lâkin o meşakkatli mesafe kendilerine uzak geldi. Bununla beraber eğer istitaatimiz olsa idi elbette çıkarırdık diye yakında yemin edecekler, nefislerini helâke sürükliyecekler, Allah biliyor ki zira onlar kat'ıyyen yalancılardır

S’il se fût agi d’un succès très-proche, d’une expédition avec un but fixe, ils t’auraient suivi sans difficulté ; mais la fatigue leur parut longue, et cependant ils jureront par Dieu, et diront : Si nous l’avions pu, nous aurions fait l’expédition avec vous. Ils se perdent eux-mêmes ; Dieu sait bien qu’ils mentent.

Indien het een nabij gelegen voordeel of eene gemakkelijke reis ware geweest, zouden zij u zeker zijn gevolgd; maar de weg scheen hun lang, en thans zweren zij bij God, zeggende: Indien wij daartoe in staat waren geweest, zouden wij u zeker hebben gevolgd. Zij vernietigen hunne eigene zielen; want God weet dat zij leugenaars zijn.

Se si fosse trattato di un resultato molto vicino, d’una spedizione determinata, ti avrebbero seguito senza difficoltà; ma la strada lor sembrò lunga, e nonostante giurarono per Dio, e dissero: Se avessimo potuto, avremmo fatta la spedizione con voi. Si perdono da loro stessi. Dio sa bene che mentiscono.
