Quran 24:40

Or like utter darkness in a vast ocean, covered by waves, above which are waves, above which is fog. Darkness upon darkness. If he brings out his hand, he will hardly see it. He to whom Allah has not granted a light has no light.

Or as darkness on a vast, abysmal sea. There covereth him a wave, above which is a wave, above which is a cloud. Layer upon layer of darkness. When he holdeth out his hand he scarce can see it. And he for whom Allah hath not appointed light, for him there is no light.

Yâhud derin bir denizdeki zulümât gibidir, onu bir dalga bürüyor, üstünden bir dalga, üstünden bir bulut, öyle zulümât ki birbiri üstüne, elini çıkardığı vakıt onu görmesi ihtimali yok, her kime de Allah, bir nûr yapmamışsa artık onun için hiç nûr yoktur

Leurs œuvres ressemblent encore aux ténèbres étendues sur une mer profonde que couvrent des flots tumultueux ; d’autres flots s’élèvent, et puis un nuage, et puis des ténèbres entassées sur des ténèbres ; l’homme étend sa main et ne la voit pas, Si Dieu ne donne pas de lumière à l’homme, où la trouvera-t-il ?

Of als de duisternis, verspreid over eene diepe zee, met golven bedekt die over andere golven rollen, waarboven wolken liggen, en daarboven duisternis boven duisternis; de mensch strekt zijne hand uit en ziet het niet. Indien God den mensch geen licht geeft, waar zal hij het dan vinden?
