Quran 4:153

The People of the Scripture challenge you to bring down to them a book from the sky. They had asked Moses for something even greater. They said, “Show us Allah plainly.” The thunderbolt struck them for their wickedness. Then they took the calf for worship, even after the clear proofs had come to them. Yet We pardoned that, and We gave Moses a clear authority.

The people of the Scripture ask of thee that thou shouldst cause an (actual) Book to descend upon them from heaven. They asked a greater thing of Moses aforetime, for they said: Show us Allah plainly. The storm of lightning seized them for their wickedness. Then (even after that) they chose the calf (for worship) after clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty) had come unto them. And We forgave them that! And We bestowed on Moses evident authority.

Ehl-i Kitâb senden üzerlerine Semâ’dan bir kitap indirivermeni istiyorlar, çok görme Musâ’ya bundan daha büyüğünü teklif ettiler, "Allah’ı bize açıktan göster" dediler de zulümlerile kendilerini yıldırım çarptı, sonra kendilerine o kadar açık mucizeler gelmişken tuttular danaya taptılar, derken biz bunlardan afvettik de Musâ’ya kahir bir saltanat verdik.

Les hommes des Écritures te demanderont de leur faire descendre un livre du ciel. Ils avaient demandé à Moïse quelque chose de plus, ils lui disaient : Fais-nous voir Dieu distinctement ; mais une tempête terrible fondit sur eux en punition de leur méchanceté. Puis ils prirent pour l’objet de leur adoration le veau, bien que des signes évidents leur fussent déjà venus. Mais nous leur pardonnâmes, et nous avons donné à Moïse des preuves évidentes.

Zij, die de schriften hebben ontvangen, zullen u vragen, dat gij hun een boek uit den hemel zult doen nederdalen: zij vroegen te voren aan Mozes een grooter iets dan dit; want zij zeiden: Doe ons God op zichtbare wijze zien, maar een vuurwind van den hemel verwoestte hen, om hunne boosheid. Daarop namen zij het kalf om het te aanbidden, nadat er duidelijke bewijzen onder hen waren gekomen. Maar wij vergaven hun dat, en schonken Mozes duidelijke kracht om hen te straffen.

Essi avevano domandato a Mosè qualche cosa di più, e gli dissero: Facci vedere Dio manifestamente; ma una tempesta terribile precipitò su di essi in gastigo della loro malvagità. Poi adorarono il vitello, malgrado che fossero già discesi dei segni evidenti. Ma noi li perdonammo, e diemmo a Mosè delle prove evidenti.
